Top digital modeling scientists share expertise in Greece
12 August 2026
Nearly 150 computer modeling scientists and researchers from 32 countries across five continents converged at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece for the 37th international conference on the latest applications and developments of the Soil and Water Assessment Tool, SWAT.
The conference, held June 17-19 following two days of workshops, was organized by Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in collaboration with the inventors of SWAT from Texas A&M AgriLife Research and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Agricultural Research Service, USDA-ARS, in Temple. The team also celebrated 25 years of SWAT conferences, marking a journey that began in Germany in 2001.

Benefits of southern forests for drinking water
30 April 2026
Forests and water are inextricably linked, and people are dependent on forested lands to provide clean, reliable water supplies for drinking and to support local economies. As nearly 87% of the forested land in the South is privately owned, water supplies in the region are particularly at risk of degradation from continued conversion of forests to other land uses to support a growing population. Given the variety of threats to surface water, it is increasingly important for forest managers to highlight the relationships between forests and the maintenance of clean and abundant water supplies in the region.
